Walking and steps
Each site day involves two to three hours on foot, mostly on level ground, with steps at the Mahabodhi and a stepped climb at Vulture Peak.
This is the full journey through the places of the Buddha's life in India: the first teaching at Sarnath, the awakening at Bodh Gaya, Vulture Peak at Rajgir, the monastic university at Nalanda, the relic stupa at Vaishali, the passing at Kushinagar and the rainy seasons at Shravasti. It runs by road from Varanasi to Lucknow, with a night at Rajgir or Patna to break the drive north, two nights at the places that most reward time and a last night in Lucknow before you fly or take the train home.

Buddhist pilgrims who want the principal sites of the Buddha's life in India in one journey, and are comfortable with several long road days.
Day 9 ends in Lucknow, so Day 10 suits a departure at any hour. The drive to Kushinagar via Vaishali on Day 6 is the longest of the journey, and winter fog in December and January can slow the road days.
