Vindhyachal, on the banks of the Ganga in Mirzapur district, is a major centre of goddess worship in northern India. The temple of Maa Vindhyavasini draws pilgrims throughout the year and in very large numbers during the two Navratris, in spring and autumn, and the temple surroundings have been undergoing redevelopment.

The excursion follows an approved temple programme. Many pilgrims complete the trikon parikrama, the triangular circuit that links the Vindhyavasini temple with the Kali Khoh temple and the hilltop Ashtabhuja temple, which can also be reached by ropeway when it is running. Your guide or host explains the traditions of each shrine, the order of worship and the customs for offerings.

Darshan follows each temple's own arrangements and crowds, and cannot be promised at a set time. Festival days, Navratri above all, bring very heavy crowds and long waits, so we advise on dates when you plan. The drive takes roughly two hours each way, depending on traffic, and the day can be combined with Chunar on request.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Step by step.

  1. An early drive from Varanasi to Vindhyachal.
  2. A visit to the Vindhyavasini temple, within its own arrangements.
  3. The trikon parikrama to Kali Khoh and Ashtabhuja, if included.
  4. The traditions of each shrine explained along the way.
  5. Return to Varanasi in the late afternoon or evening.
GOOD TO KNOW

Before you go.

  • Walking: queues, steps and some climbing. The Ashtabhuja hilltop means a stair climb unless the ropeway is running.
  • Timing: a full day, with about two hours' drive each way. Navratri and weekends are the busiest days.
  • Dress: modest, traditional clothing is respected, and shoes are left outside the temples.
  • Access: phones and bags may be restricted inside the temples. Darshan depends on temple arrangements and crowds.

Added items are requests. If something is already part of your journey and tier it shows as included and is never charged twice.
